Oregon Service Trek Itinerary

Make a difference while exploring the mountains and craters of Oregon.

Recommended ages: Entering 10-12th grade
Required minimum age: 16
Community service: Up to 40 hours

Kids in Huddle DAYS 1-3: BASE CAMP (OUTSIDE OF SEATTLE, WA)

Spend three days getting to know each other, playing team building games, learning outdoor skills and wilderness first aid, and joining in camp-wide activities.  The opening games of the summer's Trek Challenge will get you excited for the adventures ahead.

 

RaftingDAY 4: WHITEWATER RAFTING ON THE WHITE SALMON RIVER

Start the trek off with a splash! Try your hand at white-water rafting in southern Washington. The intense White Salmon River in Washington cuts its way through beautiful, constricted and heavily forested gorges. The water is crystal clear and the rapids are big and numerous.

 

HabitatDAYS 5-7: HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD IN BEND, OR

Habitat for Humanity is a national organization that strives to fund and build houses for the people in our communities that cannot afford a house of their own. They believe everyone has a right to have a safe and warm house to live in. You’ll spend 3 days on a build site in the greater Bend area. It’s ok if you don’t have experience, the experts at Habitat will teach us how we can safely help with the build. In the evening, you’ll get to explore all Bend has to offer.

 

Rock Climbing DAY 8: ROCK CLIMBING AT SMITH ROCK STATE PARK

Smith Rock State Park is world-famous for its sheer cliffs of tuff and basalt, ideal for rock climbing of all experience levels. Professional guides will setup routes appropriate for your climbing ability, and give you a chance to push yourself to new heights. From the top, enjoy views of the Crooked River and the Cascade Mountain Range.

DAY 9: TRAVEL TO DESCHUTES NATIONAL FOREST

 

Shabbat DAY 10: SHABBAT CELEBRATION AT CRESCENT LAKE RESORT

Spend a relaxing day swimming, boating, or just soaking up some sunshine in the beautiful Deschutes National Forest.  You’ll get recharged and ready for another full week of adventure!

 

Crater LakeDAYS 11-13: HIKING IN CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK

There is no place in the world like Crater Lake National Park. You’ll have an opportunity to summit the tallest peak in the park and descend to the lowest crater. Enjoy majestic views from the top of the Watchman Tower. If you dare, take a quick dip in the near freezing temperature of Crater Lake.

 

Trail WorkDAYS 14-15: VOLUNTEER WITH PACIFIC CREST TRAIL ASSOCIATIONPCTA.jpg

The Pacific Crest Trail spans a distance of 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. You’ll get down and dirty and help restore a heavily used portion of the trail. Projects include constructing or repairing trail structures, removing rocks or fallen trees, and cutting back vegetation.

DAY 16: TRAVEL BACK TO BASE CAMP

 

Shabbat Services DAYS 17 AND 18: BASE CAMP AND CLOSING CEREMONIES

At the very end of the session, the entire Adamah Adventures family will return to Base Camp to celebrate all that has been accomplished. The adventure concludes with a final Shabbat celebration, final games of the Trek Challenge, and closing campfire ceremony.
